Funding news: Physical activity grants for marginalised communities living with Parkinson's

June 16, 2025

A new funding opportunity is now available to help marginalised communities across the UK support people living with Parkinson’s through physical activity.

As part of an exciting Parkinson's UK pilot grants programme, eligible groups can apply for up to £3,000 to deliver innovative projects that promote physical activity, improve wellbeing, and increase access to local exercise sessions.

What’s the aim?

The grant programme is designed to break down barriers to participation for those in marginalised communities who are not currently accessing physical activity support.

Applicants are encouraged to think creatively — whether through local exercise classes, culturally specific engagement, or co-designed community sessions — to ensure people with Parkinson’s feel empowered, welcomed, and active in their own communities.

Applications are open from Monday 2 June to Sunday 10 August 2025.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, applicants must either:

  • Work with or be part of one of the marginalised communities listed below, or
  • Deliver services to the Parkinson’s community in the eligible UK nations: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Marginalised communities included:
  • Ethnic minority groups
  • People with physical or learning disabilities
  • LGBTQIA+ communities
  • People from low-income or low socio-economic backgrounds
  • Refugee, asylum-seeking, and migrant communities
  • Individuals who identify as women
Eligible organisations:
  • Community-based not-for-profit organisations (e.g., charities, CICs, constituted groups)
  • Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs)
  • Community benefit societies and co-operatives
(Note: Parkinson’s UK local groups/branches are not eligible to apply.)

What can the funding be used for?

Funding can support:

  • Delivery of physical activity or exercise sessions (up to 60% of the grant)
  • Community consultation and engagement events (up to 40% of the grant)

This may include instructor fees, venue hire, accessible resources, outreach events, or culturally relevant session development.

How to apply

To apply, follow these three steps:

  1. Create a brief project description outlining your idea.
  2. Discuss your proposal with your local Area Development Manager (ADM). [You can find your ADM on this map.]
  3. Submit your full application, detailing your activities, delivery methods, and how you'll measure success with your local Parkinson’s community.

All applicants will be notified of their application outcome by Monday 1 September 2025.
